  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from K. Snyder -- Nothing New Here : Basically a mash-up of recent health trends: low-carb/keto, high-fiber/gut health, intermittent fasting, strength training, and HIIT. Not to say these things don't work, but I didn't learn anything that I haven't already heard from Gary Taubes, Jason Fung or David Sinclair. And, like so many other diet/nutrition "programs", it proposes a significant departure from the standard American diet--with lots of ingredients my grandmother wouldn't recognize--yet there is no attention paid to the psychology of how to change habits, end emotional eating, or cope with our toxic food and body image culture. The idea seems to be that all we need is INFORMATION to change habits and lost weight. That we'll be sufficiently motivated by an explanation of how hormones regulate hunger and weight, combined with a few success stories, to switch to sauteed kale and green smoothies. You'll lose weight, gain energy, sleep better, and feel great - and then be able to maintain those healthy new habits for the rest of your life because you'll have "fixed" the problem that caused your weight gain in the first place! This is an old, tired formula for how to sell diet books. Even the recipes in the book are recycled from her earlier books. Americans, as a group, get fatter every year. We're stressed, we're tired, we're anxious and depressed. But we're mired in the religion of "personal responsibility" and starstruck by the idea of transformation. It's the fuel that powers the Diet Industrial Complex. I want more from science and the medical community. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from FrenchNic -- This Is The Book We've All Been Waiting For!!! : I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book for months! I have had some success with Keto diet and felt a million times better on it than I thought I could feel now that I'm in my fifties and post-menopause. • from C -- TOP 50 REVIEWER : Great information about food and hormones, plus diet plan and recipes ( 5.0 out of 5 stars )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from health advocate -- Finally - Keto for Women! : I’ve struggled with Keto and even gained weight. What Dr. Sara shows us are two missing legs to the stool - starting with Detoxification, then Keto and lastly adding Intermittent Fasting. Collectively the new Gottfried Protocol makes it all hum. The new book also gives us 50 fabulous and yummy Keto recipes that your family will also relish. Chapter 6 really helped me with understanding how to troubleshoot Keto barriers such as eating too much protein and high blood sugar. Just amazing how Dr. Sara keeps adding to ways for us to not only balance our hormones but live younger and more healthy and fulfilling lives. She keeps climbing higher and brings us along using her love of science, medicine and n=1 studies on herself. Can’t thank her enough for her lifelong dedication to helping women reclaim their birthright. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2021 )

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from C M M -- Impractical for the average British woman : This is an American book which has been lightly revised for a British readership, but is still full of foodstuffs, supplements, devices and services which are only available in the United Kingdom with difficulty, or even not at all. The diet recommended is a modified keto diet, and there is an assumption that readers will probably have tried a keto diet in the past, and will understand what it entails. "I want you to eat a ketogenic ratio of 2 ketogenic factors to 1 anti-ketogenic factor. That means you'll eat 2 grams of fat for every 1 gram of carbohydrate and protein combined." Huh? It is possible to buy glucose and ketone testing kits on Amazon, but the book only gives details of American testing laboratories for the tests which would allow the diet to be modified for the benefit of an individual woman. My conclusion is that this book does not add anything to help a British woman over already available information on keto diets aimed at everyone. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 9, 2021 )
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Looby Loo -- Disappointly complicated. : I understand the process of ketosis, I believe the science and it all makes perfect sense but calculating the plan that's right for yourself and applying it to your own life/lifestyle is extremely complicated. The recipes for shakes, salads, soups, casseroles etc. all contain a myriad of powders, oils, supplemental prebiotic fibre etc (probably to achieve the required 2:1 ratio) they're just not 'everyday' practical and considering the book is encouraging the consumption of plants over everything else there are only 3 vegetable dishes and two of those are artichoke dishes. I had hoped to learn how the healthy low carb meals I have been cooking and enjoying for years can be 'amended' to fit in line with the plan but it just doesn't seem possible. I'll take from this book the benefit of eating good quality (free range, organic, grass-reared etc.) produce, eliminating processed foods, sugars and simple carbohydrates, perhaps drinking a little less wine and excercising a little more - but I already knew that. I'm not so overweight and unhappy with myself to be bothered to go to this extreme, so that's a blessing. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 12, 2021 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from H. A. Davis -- Not for the UK market : I wished I'd read previous reviews which highlighted the fact this book is not suitable for UK readers. A great deal of what is recommended is available in the US (and is costly). There is also a heavy dependence on your understanding of the Keto principles and science. I returned my copy. • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Disappointing. : This book gives lots of information about hormones which may appeal to the more scientific reader, but the diet is hardly new, basically a combination of keto and intermittent fasting, information which can be obtained from many other sources. The recipes in the final chapter look quite interesting, hence the extra star, but in general a waste of money. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 9, 2021 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from emmar -- Sadly disappointed : I've followed Sara for a while and enjoyed her previous book The Hormone Cure, but I have to say I found this book to be really disappointing for a number of reasons. Being a qualified nutritional therapist and 46 year old peri-menopausal woman, I was looking forward to reading about Sara's new and different keto plan suitable for women, especially women of my age, but for me it didn't feel different at all. I've worked with keto for clients and read a fair bit about it, and Sara's plan is just a keto diet, maybe a little less strict, followed by a lower carb mediterranean diet. The rest of the information in the book feels recycled from her previous book, it skips over important topics, and the client stories were very short and didn't offer much. I didn't feel I learned anything and if I hadn't had background knowledge on keto and women's health already, I expect I would have found it all confusing. Also, sorry but it was boring! I was glazing over a lot of the time and looking forward to finishing so I could move on to other books! I actually didn't finish it in the end, but read enough to know I needed to return it. I like Dr Sara's previous work and think she knows her stuff, but sadly, for me, this book definitely did not live up to the hype. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 31, 2021 )
